🏷️ Discount Calculator

Sale price and saving, including stacked discounts — and the reverse.

Original price Off % then off %
Original Paid —

Find the real sale price and how much you actually save. Enter the original price and the discount percentage to get the final price and the saving; add a second percentage when a shop applies two discounts in sequence. The second row runs the calculation backwards: give the original price and the price you paid and it returns the effective discount, which is what you want when a price is marked down without a percentage on the ticket.

How to use the Discount Calculator

  1. Enter the original price.
  2. Enter the discount percentage — 30 for 30% off.
  3. Optionally add a second, stacked discount. The two are applied one after the other.
  4. Read the final price and the amount saved, then use the reverse row if you only have two prices.

Why people use it

  • Checking a sale-rail price against the ticket before you queue.
  • Understanding stacked offers, where 30% off then 20% off is not 50% off.
  • Working out the effective discount when only two prices are shown.
  • Comparing the same item across shops on equal terms.

Frequently asked questions

Is 30% off then 20% off the same as 50% off?

No. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price. On a $100 item, 30% off leaves $70, and a further 20% off that leaves $56 — a total saving of 44%, not 50%. The stacked field shows this correctly instead of adding the two percentages.

Why does the effective discount differ from the advertised one?

Order of application and rounding. Shops normally apply the larger discount first and the smaller one to the reduced price, which is less generous than adding the percentages together.

How do I find the discount percentage from two prices?

Enter the original price and the price you paid in the reverse row. The output is the percentage you actually saved, which is the honest number to compare between shops.
