🗜️ Compress PDF
Make a PDF smaller. Rebuild the pages as optimised images, or keep the text and drop the structure the file does not need.
Make a PDF smaller without sending it anywhere. Two modes: rebuild every page as an optimised JPEG, which is what removes the most weight, or keep the text as text and drop the structure the file does not need. You see the before and after size before you decide.
How to use the Compress PDF
- Choose the PDF you want to shrink.
- Pick a mode — Smallest file rebuilds each page as an image, Keep the text selectable only reorganises the file.
- Set the quality if you chose the image mode, press Compress, and compare the two sizes.
Why people use it
- Scanned documents and slide exports are mostly oversized images. Re-encoding those images is where the megabytes actually are, and nothing else gets close to it.
- The light mode never touches your content, so text stays searchable, selectable and copyable — it only drops object overhead and metadata.
- The file is read and written inside your browser. Contracts, payslips and ID scans do not leave the machine, which is not true of most compressors.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will it get?
Scanned or image-heavy files typically drop 60–90% in the image mode. A PDF that is already mostly text may save almost nothing, because the light mode cannot cut fat that is not there — and the tool says so instead of pretending.
Does compressing break the text?
In the image mode, yes: each page becomes a picture, so text is no longer selectable or searchable and a screen reader cannot read it. If the document has to stay accessible, use the light mode.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no server limit, because there is no server. The practical limit is your own memory: a 200 MB PDF needs a lot of it while the pages are being re-rendered. Anything under about 50 MB is comfortable.
